We've done this hike twice and been fortunate to stay in the lookout tower overnight before, but this is the latest in the season we've ever gone to Heybrook Lookout.
The hike was cool and pleasant. The tower was empty when we arrived, and we never saw other people until we were headed back down the trail the next morning.
The valley is completely different in October. Fog all around. Banks of fog scudding along the river. Spooky in the best ways!
We each picked a horror story to read aloud before bed, which was a hoot -- not least because it made our pre-bed trip to the toilet extra creepy. We didn't know the toilet had been moved, and the new location is further away and deeper into the woods.
As ever, it was grand.
