After securing a timed entry the night before (don’t forget this part!), we started this trail around 11am. Throughout the length of the trail we saw around 4 people, a treat for a hike in a national park.
The trail to the lakes was in excellent condition, with just one small muddy patch on the initial descent. Upper Palisades lake was cool for a dip before we returned.
When judging this hike, keep in mind that it rolls, routinely climbing and descending the whole way. We found the descent to/climb out of Dick’s Lake to be the most challenging.
The mosquitoes were AWFUL. No amount of bug spray helped. We are covered in bites.
