Wayne Golf Course — Saturday, Jul. 20, 2024

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Wayne Golf Course Park

We chose to hike Wayne Golf Course today, it is a close destination, and we had never been to it (other than to pass by it during its days as a golf course). The day was very warm, very sunny and 82 degrees at the point we were there. The parking lot is a generous size, we had no trouble parking. The trails meander next to the Sammammish Slough, or higher and parallel to it. Many trails were about golf cart-width, and others were thin footpaths. There are broad swaths of fairway in tall grass, which gives the whole park the feel of a meadow. There were other folks braving the heat, including dog walkers and kids fishing off one of the bridges over the Slough. The higher trails follow a gentle up-and-down in elevation, so you can get a workout. We appreciated the many benches scattered throughout the park, both concrete ones and wooden ones. There were several areas where an effort was being made to speed up the process of turning into forest, marked with signs "Future Riparian Forest". The old clubhouse is still boarded up. Aside from the buzz of traffic on Hwy 522, the park is very quiet and it was a lovely hike. We hiked for about an hour, and then called it quits due to the heat. Definitely worth a re-visit!
