Great hike. Mildly overcast but good visibility of the ridge and crest of mountains. Horrid mosquitoes!
the road to backdoor trailhead doesnt look that gnarly, but bottomed out my tesla y. I would recommend higher clearance. There were 3 cars parked when i got there at 10am. When i left at 3pm there were about 6.
The trail is in good condition and dry all the way to the rampart lakes, not requiring any special gear, although there are patches of snow to the side. If you hike any higher there is significant snow crossing including snow bridges up to point 5780. I would recommend poles and microspikes for these saw more heading in throughout the day.
All of the lakes are completely melted out
