An early Sunday morning hike up to Comet Falls.... beat the timed entry and passed through the gate at 6 AM. As usual at that time of the morning there was not anybody working the booth and no lines.
There was only 1 other car when we arrived at the lot! And a quick #alwaysreviewthetoilets 🧻 - there are none at the trailhead. A couple of chances on your way though.
I did throw on some bug spray before heading out so I can't speak to how bad the bugs may have been - but I did see some and did get 2 bites 🦟. So, I'm glad I had some on.
The trail itself is in great shape. A couple of step-over mud patches. And if you go beyond the first viewpoint, you'll get a little water running down the middle of the trail for a while. No big deal.
The main issue are rocks. Not too many loose ones, but the "watch your footing" with some "ugh, that's a big step" ones that slow you down. Nothing out of the ordinary - but I went on a trip and you're getting the report.
Crib ladder is cool - on the way back approaching it I was like "where did the trail go?" - oh yeah, it goes down the ladder.
The log bridge that crosses the creek ... water is running fast under it. I get dizzy if I look down while crossing - so just don't look down. 😉
Despite all my complaints - the falls are totally worth it. You should go beyond the first viewpoint to get closer. So cool.
And get this - since we left so early - we had the falls to ourselves and didn't see anybody on the trail until we were heading back. Unreal for a Sunday with nice weather on a popular trail at Rainier!
