First time, and went on a Sunday night. Stunning waterfall at the end, and a few others that were beautiful along the way. Lots of flowers as well. Not many people on the trail from 4:30-6:30pm.
Reservation/Timed Entry:
I called at 7:05pm on Saturday to get a time-entry reservation and the last one was taken before I could take it. So, I went to the Rainier Base Camp bar/grill in Ashford to get food while waiting and got into line at 2:54pm (you don’t require a reservation after 3pm), and got into the park around 4:15pm.
There were a few parking spots available at the trailhead, and the trail felt like it was between moderate and hard for most people. There was a breeze, so there weren’t many bugs to deal with.
The forecast called for sunshine from 4pm-8pm, but clouds came and settled on Rainier, so views were very limited. But, it was still worth it!!
