Our WTA volunteer trail crew arrived to find the road cleared of trees to the trailhead and passable by most vehicles. The trail had not had any maintenance done since 2020 and it showed. We scouted six miles up and found approximately eighty trees down on the trail. Our team of 12 split into four teams and we spent three days working our way up the trail taking out each log as we encountered it. The trail was cleared up to the 4.5 mile mark but there are still some trees down on the trail from there to the six mile point that hikers will still encounter. The hiker should know that this is a steep primitive trail with a narrow tread and heavy brush in spots but easy enough to follow. The hiker is rewarded with a gorgeous old growth forest and occasional views of Rainier and Adams before breaking out on the ridge east of Angry Mtn.
