Seahurst Park — Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Setting sun, from the shore of Seahurst Park

I first discovered the Seahurst Park trail network in 1979 or 1980. I lived in an apartment at the top of the hill. One day I put on my boots and decided to explore what was beyond a wooden fence down the hill. I found a heavily forested network of trails and a service road, both of which went all the way down to Puget Sound. More than once, I walked down the trail to a bridge over a creek, where I would sit to peacefully read a book.

Trails back then were often muddy, due to numerous natural seepages breaching the sandy soil, and inadequate trail maintenance.

What a lovely contrast. Today, the trails are in great shape. Despite recent rains, they are not muddy at all. Now, I need to refamiliarize myself with the trails, and find that bridge again.
