Hiked up to Talapus Lake on Monday morning, starting at 9:50am. The last 3 miles of road (FS Rd 9030) leading up to the trailhead are unpaved with several potholes and loose gravel; drive with caution if you have a sedan.
Having snowed the night before, the trail had snow patches starting a half mile in. From about a half mile before Talapus Lake, there was a good amount of snow on the trail - poles/microspikes recommended.
I reached Talapus Lake at 10:35. The view was breathtaking, and the fresh dusting of snow on the trees added to the serene setting. Because there was so much snow on the way to Talapus already, I didn’t proceed further to Olallie. Started my way back at 10:55 and reached the parking lot at 11:30.
