Trip Report

Mount Rose — Monday, Apr. 28, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
View as far up as we could go

Three of us arrived 9:50am. Overcast day, temps in 50's. One car at trailhead.

Trail to horse camp dry, no hazards.

Began summit loop trail going clockwise, able to visualize this trail no used. Came upon patches of snow less than a foot deep, soft enough to make an impression. From this point on there were post holes and severe moulding at tree wells, small trees and rocks

Eventually the snow was 4-5' deep with continued post holes and moulding. The trail made from previous hikers disappeared. We could not make it to the marker at the peak. We could see the peak a few hundred yards in front of us. A hiker ahead of us turned around for the same reasons.

Microspikes worked well.

Coming down the small rocks on the trail acted as rollers and we were all losing footing at points without falling.

We saw 4 types of flowers, no critters, Pacific wrens chirping at lower elevations.

Back to car at3:40pm.
