Got here just as the drizzle was finishing up. Wondered if the big log crossing (one mile in) might be too slick from the rain, but it was surprisingly less slippery than I thought it would be. As far as obstacles go, in addition to the big log crossing, a couple of other spots with blowdown and little stream crossings, nothing major. Overall easy hike.
Saw some wildflowers--trillium, columbine, bleeding hearts, solomon's seal--and a juvenile pileated woodpecker, frog, and banana slug (and a small number of mosquitoes). Beautiful mountain views, lovely to see the waterfalls high above while walking along. A few other hiking groups were here, but definitely not crowded. Find the hidden chandelier on your right as you hike in (within about 3/4 mile of the townsite)
It was fun to explore the townsite and learn about the mining history. Pick up "Hiking Washington's History" by Judy Bentley and Craig Romano if you haven't already--some additional great historical context and good trail descriptions.
Also many thanks to anyone who ever writes a trip report!
