Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island

There were four cars at the Prairie Overlook trailhead when I arrived around 9:30am on this lovely sunny Wednesday. Toilets are open, clean and well stocked.

Native wild roses are currently blooming all along the Prairie Ridge trail and parts of the Bluff Trail and smell heavenly, other wildflowers also currently blooming, including my favorite, lupine. This beautifully clear day allowed for views of Mount Baker and Rainier from the trail, along with the great expanse of the Puget Sound and Olympics. Saw (and heard) a wonderful variety of birds and butterflies, and even saw a seal swimming north along the coast.

Always love this trail, as well as options nearby for post-hike noms! Today's journey concluded with a wonderful bite from Whidbey Island Bagel Factory in Oak Harbor. Happy Hiking!
