Trip Report

Mount Dickerman — Saturday, Jul. 5, 2025

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
A mediocre photo of magnificent views

Mileage/Elevation Gain: 9.46mi/3,753ft
Weather: Sunny

Parking/Road There: There's no need to hit up forest roads for this trail since the trailhead is right off Mountain Loop Highway and the parking lot for the trailhead is fairly large. When we arrived at around 11am there was plenty of space for cars and the same was true when we returned to the trailhead around 4:30pm.

Foot Traffic: Foot traffic was minimal on the way up and down. Probably a total of 10 groups in both directions.

Snow: The trail is not totally snow free. There are 3 snowfields towards the top that can all be passed without microspikes or poles. One of them was long enough for me to slide on briefly on the way down.

Trail: This trail has quickly taken up the number 1 spot in my repertoire of local hikes. It strikes a perfect balance between taking you through old-growth forest, meadows, and rocky ridges. The summit is something you have to experience for yourself and I won't even attempt to put the experience into words here.

Some stretches of the hike are steeper than others, there's a ton of elevation gain concentrated towards the end of the hike. You'll gain most of the elevation throw wooden steps, some of these steps have deteriorated but nothing too bad. No major stream crossings along the way, I didn't get my feet wet at all, which is unusual for me.
