Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
Amazing cloud colors

I have also seen this peak named Moose Peak on Summitpost.org, but it has been known colloquially on the northern Olympic Peninsula as Moosehead for many years (from certain approach angles it looks like a moose's head in profile). On some maps it may be named Peak 6751'.

The easiest approach is to park at the Obstruction Point trailhead, off from near the top of the Hurricane Ridge Road. There is a restroom there but no water. Hike out the trail to Grand Valley, but just before the trail begins its long descent, continue on an obvious way trail that contours along the ridge. Follow the way trail over a small rocky knob that may have some snow patches into July. Just past the knob the way trail follows the contour, crossing a 1/4 mile rockfall and then comes to a narrow ridge. Descend the ridge on a rugged way trail to its lowest point. Then scramble down into the next basin following a faint foot trail. From here you can see the way trail above. You may need to head up either steep scree or some snow patches to access the upper way trail. It took me 2:15 from the parking lot to the top, but we were passed by some trail runners who made much better time. It's usually quite windy on the top. Views are panoramic with the Needles to the east, Lake Lillian to the south, and Mt. Olympus to the west.

I have done this with children under 10 but would not recommend it, as there are some brief rugged scrambles up and down and the round trip is about 9 miles. No water available along the route in summer.
