Source Lake, Snow Lake — Thursday, Jul. 10, 2025

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Looking up at the Source Lake Overlook... so many cascades! A HIGHLY recommended addition (thanks WTA Pro Tip!)

Headline: Don't miss the spur trail to Source Lake if you're going to Snow Lake!!

I've put in a ton of miles on trails all over the Cascades, but hadn't done this classic until today... and I see why it's so popular! Sharing our timing since all of the good stuff you'll find in the extensive WTA write-up:

  • 8:15AM - Departed trailhead. About 30 cars there on a Thursday morning.
  • 9:20AM - Made it to the end of the Source Lake Overlook, took a long break here.
  • 10:00AM - Joined back up with the main trail, headed up!
  • 10:55AM - Made it down to Snow Lake, the first lake access point. Tagged and turned around.
  • 11:25AM - Dropped back over the high point of the trail, stopped for a five minute break on the rock overlooking the valley side.
  • 11:30AM - Started heading down...
  • 11:50AM - Passed the junction to Source Lake...
  • 12:45PM - Back at the car - about 100 cars at departure time.

The main trail was BUSY. Constant stream of hikers. Generally respectful, with two groups playing amplified music (*shakes fist* / quotes George Costanza).

But, we didn't see a soul on the spur trail to Source Lake Overlook! And no bugs while we were chilling there! That was our highlight of the day. Bugs at Snow Lake were VERY annoying - glad that we had a long chill at Source Lake Overlook... made our literal two minute stop at the buggy Snow Lake totally ok.

Happy hiking!

Looking down at Source Lake from the overlook
Snow Lake was pretty, clear, and teeming with bugs!
Our haul of litter we picked up along the trail :)
