Mount Adams South Climb — Saturday, Jul. 19, 2025

South Cascades > Mount Adams Area
walking up on lunch counter, you can see how the snowfield right below Piker's peak is being melted out

Hiked Mt. Adams C2C (2nd time doing C2C and 6th time on the summit). Weather was perfect for July (cooler temps, slightly windy but dry). Road to trailhead similar to last year (high clearance vehicle recommended, scraped front bumper once on subaru ascent). Bathrooms clean with toilet paper in stock.

Trail is melted out up until you reach snowfields right before lunch counter.  Morrison creek running so good spot to fill up on water on way down. We didn't see a water source on lunch counter but was told by another group that there is running water at the top of lunch counter right before you start climbing to Piker's peak.

Great steps in the snow up to Piker's peak.  We used crampons but did see some people with microspikes. The summit block is melted out and just scree right now.  There is one more water source right at the summit.  Views great today (saw Rainer, Hood, Jefferson, St. Helens).  Also you could see the new Bingen Fire but luckily smoke was being pushed eastward. The upper 1/3 of the glissade chute is melted out with rocks appearing so most people were avoiding that part and glissading the lower chute which was soft by late afternoon. Shoutout to volunteer ranger Chris who was checking in on people on the trail.  With the budget cuts, the forest service has not been able to have as many rangers up there but people have been stepping in as volunteer rangers to keep people safe on the trail. Ended up being 14 hr day, 12 miles, and 6800 ft EG.
