This was a fabulous hike. WTA's description of the trail was accurate. The trail passes by many fields of magnificent wildflowers as it winds its way along. About a mile from the summit, it starts to ascend talus slopes, comes around the back side of the mountain and goes steeply to the summit. We did not have any trouble finding the trail. The view from the tops was of Mt. Adams, the Goat Rock peaks and Mt. Rainier.
There were some biting mosquitoes on the lower part. Flies and hoverflies were at the top but were not biting.
There is a major error in the driving directions. The wrong directions are "Drive 4.8 miles, then make a left onto FR 757". It should say," Drive 3 miles, then make a left onto FR 742." Fortunately, all the turns are signed so we had no trouble.
We went to the Section 3 trailhead. The last part of the road is quite rough. I drove my pickup in 4 WD in second gear. I would not recommend anything with less capability. Not surprisingly, there was no one else there.
