This was a pleasant hike on a partly overcast day. The first part of the hike switchbacks up through the forest and the shade was welcome for when the sun did pop out occasionally. There were two blowdowns over the trail, with both being fairly easy to get over or under. Towards the latter half of the hike, much work has been done to improve the tread which I could see would be rather muddy in the early season or after much rain. The berry's are also starting to ripen fully with the huckleberry's toward the lower half of the hike and the blueberry's towards the upper half.
In spite of the overcast weather, the views from the top were incredible. However, I would shoot for a clearer day if you were to do this hike to get the full views. The bugs were not too bad along the trail. At the top, there were the occasional mosquito's and fly's but nothing too distracting, especially when standing in the breezes.
I highly recommend this hike. Although there is substantial elevation gain for the entire way, it is never too extreme, it's consistently moderate and much of it is in the shade so definitely hikable on a warm day.
