Snowgrass Flat, Goat Lake — Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025

South Cascades > Goat Rocks
View to Mt Adams between Jordan Basin and Goat Lake by cmshow

Started from the Snowgrass TH at 9:30ish in Saturday 8/30, both lots were already full and parked along the TH road (saw cars parked much further down on our way out Monday). Road is long and washboarded but doable for most if you take your time.

Took CW route, is much more scenic than going CCW. Good amount of shade for much of the hike up to Jordan Basin to set up camp. The last bit of uphill before the basin really got us, so we stopped there.

On Sunday, we day hiked the last bit up to Goat Lake and it seemed like a lot of spots emptied out from a busy Saturday night. We packed up early Monday morning and hit the trail at 7 to finish the long remaining CW leg in the shade as much as possible.

Saw (and heard) lots of marmots and pikas, saw chipmunks and various large birds. Stunning hike, is not easy but doable slow and steady.
