Trip Report

Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail, Wenatchee Confluence State Park - Horan Natural Area — Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025

Central Washington > Wenatchee

I enjoy chasing fall colors in Wenatchee, particularly elm-lined alley in Confluence State Park that is typically gleaming golden lush this time of year, creating wonderful photo opportunities. Last year WTA even featured my pic on their list of the spookiest fall hikes. This year however the said alley is a bit of disappointment; leaves seem to just dry out and fall due to hot and dry summer, and my beloved magical appearance is lost.

There are still colors to be found along the Horan trail, and it was a warm and dry day anyway - nice change from rainy Seattle.

There is still a lot of smoke around Wenatchee, with new plums coming and going, and it feels like buildings absorbed the smell and will keep it for a while.

Note that the Apple Capital Loop is undergoing heavy renovation in places. From Walla Walla Point to Confluence SP, the bike trail is closed, while pedestrians are diverted via Horan Natural Area. On the southern side of the Loop, bridge across the Columbia is closed/limited during construction.
