Wanted to get out for a fall hike as my hiking window starts to close, though this one was very wet. As I am leaving the country next year, I am trying to do hikes or outdoor sites in WA that I have wanted to do but never gotten around to. I had never gone up to the third ledge of Rattlesnake Ledge, so that was my goal for this one. Steady downpour from Seattle all the way to the trailhead. Arrived at 8:15 am and headed up the trail in the rain. Very wet all the way up. Passed about 10 people on the way up, so not too bad for Rattlesnake. Stopped briefly to take in Ledge 1, where there were four people. Continued up to Ledge 2 and looked into the cloudbank there for a moment. Then continued on to Ledge 3, where I had never been. No people at either Ledge 2 or 3. Of course, not a great view, but at this point the rain and wind stopped. I had a much more pleasant hike back down and saw about 40 people on their way up. Back at parking lot at 10:30. Stopped at the bakery in North Bend, as per my tradition. Miles: 6.4; Wildlife: none.
