Beautiful late fall hike to the classic Lake Serene. The upper parking lot was filling up by about 9:45AM, and the restrooms at the trailhead appear to be closed for the season.
Other notes from the hike:
- About 3-4 trees blown down across the trail within the first mile to mile and a half. All easily navigated.
- There were some stream crossings to contend with and water on the trail at times, so boots are a must to avoid wet feet.
- Trail was snow free and otherwise in very good shape. I hadn't been here in years, and the trail work right by the lake was impressive.
- The lake basin was significantly colder and breezier than the rest of the trail. Even with all of our warm layers, we were still cold. We had hoped to linger longer, but had to get moving to warm up.
- Colorful fungi and foliage to be seen along the trail at this time of year.
- Roundtrip we clocked a little over 8 miles from car to lake without the Bridal Veil Falls detour, which is a bit longer than the roundtrip distance reported in the hiking guide.
