Lena Lake — Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

The road was completely snow free to the trailhead. The first mile of trail had a lot of water on it - parts of the trail are essentially a small creek right now. Higher up small amounts of snow start, and by the lake the snow is a few inches deep. We saw a few people on the trail, and there have been enough hikers that the snow at the top was pretty well packed down. Definitely doable with trail running shoes, although boots were nice to have. Met a couple hikers who had attempted Upper Lena Lake but said they turned around after losing the trail in waist-deep snow part way up. Wonderful day out in the mountains!
