The gate to the Big Creek Campground is closed right at the road (highway 119). When we arrived around 10:30 am, there were a few other cars in the small parking area outside the gate.
We followed the big creek campground loop clockwise until it intersected the Upper Big Creek loop. We took the Upper Big Creek loop clockwise. The trail was in great condition! No downed branches and no snow. The elevation gain was gradual.
We enjoyed all the moss, lots of mushrooms, the beautiful creek crossings and forest. Definitely check out the viewpoint for the confluence of the north and south branches of big creek. It’s only a short side detour.
There were a huge number of benches to stop and enjoy the scenery. Highly recommend this hike!
