Perfect First Day hike for 2026! My husband and dog were with me (don't normally hike with them so it was fun!).
We did about 2.5 miles round trip to the tunnel and the Devil's Punch Bowl and back.
The trail is in perfect condition. Smooth and a couple of gentle hills. It was wide which was great for us with our dog who is a bit reactive.
It rained a bit off and on but mostly was just classic gray Pacific NW January.
One important note if you've not been here before - to get to the bridge over the punchbowl you need to go to the left (not through the tunnel or you miss it). A fun loop is to go one way through the tunnel and back around the point (which is a little bit longer and not wheelchair friendly like the rest of the trail).
When you enter the tunnel it's super dark - bring that head lamp! It's curved so it isn't really that long even though you can't see the light from the end.
Also, they do require an entrance permit for Olympic NP according to the trailhead signage. Pit toilet and trash can in the parking area.
