Today was an amazing day to be outside, I love a good closed mountain highway road walk and this was a great one! (Tomorrow I’ll hit Highway 20) The road from the closure to the Big Four trailhead is nice hard packed snow and so is most of the trail. We used spikes the whole time and they were very helpful but probably not necessary. The trail is well used, easy to follow, and so beautiful. There are multiple trees over the trail but they are easy to go over, under, or around. I’ve been to Big Four in every other season and this was my favorite time yet! There are no facilities at the trailhead and all the toilets along the road are locked but there are places to stop along the way. We only saw about 5 people all day. There were a couple other cars when we got to the Deer Creek gate and about 5 when we left but it was getting busier as we drove away.
