Olympics from GM-1 spur lunch spot

Note: This road is closed to vehicles in the winter, so nice for hiking!

We are exploring the many logging and other roads on the W side of Green Mtn beginning at the GM-1 gate off Lake Tahuya Rd.

After a late start, we first climbed the little hill up to a cell tower (blue on my map). Short and steep. There were nice peek-a-book views of the Olympics from about 1/2 the way up and a sunny place to sit and rest at the top.  A very primitive trail heads down the backside of this hill toward the clearcut and perhaps connects with GM-2 which winds around the E base of this little hill.

Then we returned to GM-1 and continued up towards Green Mtn, finding a lovely lunch spot with stuff to sit on at the end of one of logging spurs.  GM-1 is flat, then climbs, then is flattish, then climbs again going up Green Mtn.  We continued up the road enjoying peek-a-boo views out W to the Olympics, than headed back when we reached the 2nd climbing section.

Like GM-4 on the N side of Green Mountain there's a lot to explore here and few people come this way.  Very interesting!

Next we'll probably explore further up GM-1 where there are junctions with GM-14 and GM-15, and where it crosses the Beaver Pond trail.
