Eastern Washington > Okanogan Highlands/Kettle River Range
Gravel Trail Through Most of Area

A trip to the big city (Omak) had us looking for some outdoor adventure. Thanks to GaiaTopo and a studious eye we located just what we needed.

Walking this largely forgotten bend in the Okanogan River was a pleasure. Numerous bald eagles roosted in the winter bared cottonwoods and beaver’s handiwork was all about. Numerous birds rustled about on this warm winter day as the sun slowly creeps higher in the sky.

Sounds of an active city were there but nature’s rhythms were undeniable. As many as fifteen eagles were visible at a time. This small wedge of riparian ecosystem was stifled in the 50s through infrastructure development. Now the tribes in conjunction with others are bringing new life and water flow to this urban scape.

A Beaver’s Work is Never Done. Well said. Much respect for those aspirational critters.
