Trip Report

Square Lake Park — Sunday, Feb. 8, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area

Dropped by little Square Lake Park on a cloudy Superbowl Sunday morning. Winter hours! Only open Saturdays and Sundays, dawn to dusk.

Road: paved

Parking lot: large and completely empty

Bathroom: clean and stocked with two half-full industrial-type rolls of TP, plus hand sanitizer.

Trail: obstacle-free, on the short stretch I explored (to the back end of the lake, where the trail begins to turn away from it). The description mentioned the trail doesn’t go around the lake, and I was in the midst of a longer walk around the neighborhood, so I turned back there.

Views: two beaver dens; two beaver families sharing real estate, or one wealthy beaver family with a vacation home? Also some ducks and geese, the small lake looking pretty in the mist. There was a “swim at your own risk” sign; the water looked a bit shallow and muddy.

People: no one at all!

"Please stay off the beaver den! We have already taken one to the vet this year."
