Mailbox Peak, Mailbox Peak - Old Trail — Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Mailbox

Took the old trail up and new one down with a friend and his dog.

This is the first time I am doing this hike, I always avoided Mailbox and Si because of the crowd.
Not gonna lie, I didn't like it much; way too many people.
Especially on the Talus section and the final climb, It feels like people are literally breathing on your neck.
I can't take a breather or go slow, then there's a train of people behind me. There were a few people with no spikes or poles!

Personally I would've slid on my butt on those icy slopes if I didn't have either of them ha ha!
A few trail runners were too, bumped into another runner friend of mine!

The entire last section is icy, better to wear spikes!
on the old trail, the last ½ mile to the junction of old and new is icy.
but the new trail has more snow overall.

I enjoyed going up the old trail, Fun stuff!

Views were excellent up at the summit, Could see Mt Baker in the distance.
One lady was feeding the birds up there to get cool pictures. I thought of telling her not to, but then I decided not to create any animosity there!

9 miles, 4100 feet of gain, 6 hours!

I noticed a few trash along the trail sadly.
I didn't pick it up today (I feel bad though, but again this can't be only my job. Everyone is enjoying the hike, the trail; I can't be the only one carrying all the responsibilities on my shoulder.)

I wish people could be a little bit decent and sensible.
(This is the theme of most of my trip reports lol. I hope this time I didn't name call anyone or didn't make anyone feel not inclusive. Hope I'm not getting another email from WTA to edit my reports lol.)

Noticed it next to the mailbox -

Strava has ruined this trail, honestly. So many competing for leaderboard times now. I had one guy running down the Talus slope startle me last time as I ascended, and I could have easily had a bad misstep. I audibly gasped when I realized he was there, just feet in front of me as I climbed up in a state of concentration. He just glared at me as if to say “get out of my way”. Not sure I’ll ever hike Mailbox again.

That's why I stayed away from this trail for so long. Maybe I'll do it again on a rainy day or in the middle of snowstorm, with no people and certainly no view lol.
