Driving back from Winthrop, I pulled off 97 at Chelan and went for a leg stretcher on the Chelan Gorge Trail. The sun was warming the day up from the morning's low in the 20s and melting a fair amount of the light snow dusting from the night before. There was no compact (old) snow on the fully gravel trail.
I did the loop down to the river's edge on Reach 1 which round trip comes to about 2.4 miles (a little more if you visit out to all the viewpoints). This was my first time seeing the Chelan River before it flows into the lake and reading about its glacial history (how it became to be so deep).
The rusty garbage mentioned in the guide is obvious, a sad testament to our culture and a depressing thought that it is leaching into the soil and river. Hopefully there are plans to clean it up?
I only saw a handful of other people, including two on bikes. If you are looking for a spot away from downtown to enjoy the scenery in Chelan, try out this urban trail.
