Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
The first body of water near the top

Me and my friend hiked this trail and I honestly didn’t realized it was considered to be “closed”… It makes sense though because there were multiple trees down on the trail which we had to navigate around. Those were near the beginning of the trail, but after that there were no real obstacles.

It had just dumped snow the night before and there was snow on the road almost the entire way to the trailhead. I’d say starting out, there was probably about 5-6” of snow. Super powdery and easy to travel on. We brought spikes but never needed them. We got up to that first little body of water before Harrison Lake. That was our turnaround point because with the snow, it took longer for us to hike up. When we turned around, there was probably about a foot of snow or more. Also, at that point, there was no resemblance of a trail whatsoever so we turned around. Our main objective was to get to the lake and possibly up Valhalla peak.

It was a beautiful hike but sad to see the damage from the fires last year.

Massive icicles
