Trip Report

Deception Pass State Park - Hoypus Point — Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island
View of the bridge

A beautiful Saturday to end February. We took the  outer perimeter of the trail except for part of North Fork Trail. Note, the maps have numbers and no trail names. The trails have names but no numbers. And Google Maps will find you but the trail names don’t match.
There are few trees down that you either need to go under or over. Lots of very muddy areas and standing water. Waterproof shoes are best right now. The forest is very lovely. Lots of sword ferns over growing the trail. There are some good views of Mount Baker and the flat road walk at the bottom has really cool views of the Deception Pass Bridge. We heard eagles, saw robins and heard other birds. A few people here and there, but not busy. Bathrooms at Cornet Bay are really nice and well stocked. Some of the better bathrooms in the deception pass area.

In total we hiked 7 miles putting us at over 100 miles for 2026!
