Trip Report

Glacier Vista Snowshoe — Sunday, Mar. 1, 2026

Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise
View from lunch spot

From the lower Paradise parking lot, we followed tracks (and then broke trail) up along Deadhorse Creek. Didn't go all the way to Glacier Vista, but took a short side trip up to Alta Vista, before headed back down on the Skyline Trail.

Road Conditions. Two cars ahead of us at the park entrance gate at 11am. The road was clear and dry all the way. No restrooms at the lower parking lot.

Trail Conditions. Lots of tracks, and breaking trail was easy where there wasn't a track to follow. Had considered looping back via Paradise Park, but didn't look so safe on that side (the avalanche forecast was "considerable").

Highlights. Despite the t-shirt weather, the snow was still decent.

Crowds. The upper parking lot looked quite full, but the lower parking lot was mostly empty all day. Despite all the tracks, we didn't see anyone on the way up. But looking up towards Camp Muir we could see a conga line, and the Skyline Trail on the way down was quite busy.
