Grey, cloudy with rain in the forecast, this was the perfect little hike. This is an old farm now converted to a dog park, trails and with some little shops, wine, cheese and a pet specialty shop. We started by just picking a trail and walking. We ended up above the farm and followed a trail thru the woods with a nice long loop. We met a lady who hiked here regularly but was recovering from an injury so asked if she could hike with us as she felt a bit insecure during her recovery. It was nice to have her, as she knew the trails and gave us some good guidance. We were guided thru the forest walk and to a tiny pond with a bench beside it that was not on the map or signed. She told us about Jim, a man she met who logs all the blowdown on the trails, watch for Jim carved in all the old logs as you hike! After tea by the forest pond, we hiked along the open ridge, which had a nice view of the water and if the mtns were not covered in clouds, would have added to the scenery. After about 5 miles, we checked out the little shops, and I came away with a Whidbey marionberry pie and some special cheese. Oh yeah, don't forget to check out the large flock of chickens and the native plant garden by the barn/shop.

Nice photos! Especially like the composition of the first one! Interesting to read about Jim! We hiked this area MANY years ago and thank you for reminding us of it as it one we could still meander! Your pie sounds delicious! I have Anjou Bakery's (Bakery in Cashmere area as you may know) recipe for their Marionberry Pie in my recipe notebook, but have never made it! The crust recipe was too fancy and time consuming for a busy young mom, but now in my late 80's I have time! :)!
