Padilla Bay — Thursday, Mar. 5, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area

This nice flat walk along the tidal flats of the bay, the short distance and lack of elevation makes it a good morning stroll. We parked at the north end bc in our experience the loo is usually in better shape, and today clean and stocked. The tide was on its way out when we started and all the way when we finished. We saw lots of eagles and a big next by the road which is visible to the right as you walk north. Herons were hunting along the ditches and ducks were digging in the mud. Trail is nicely graveled and dry. After the walk we went to Bayview State Park and ate lunch in sight of 9 feeding herons! Done walking we searched to see if there was any daffs  in bloom. We did find some! Snowgoose is open now and so we stopped in there to buy a couple of bunches of fresh daffs. Speaking of snowgeese, lots today right by the road where the WA wildlife refuge is. There is an eagles nest there too, but we didn't see the eagles today
