The storm really brought up water levels and the falls are amazing right now. Unfortunately part of a tree fell and took out part of the bottom viewing platform (pic 2). The river is quite beautiful with the snow and bright blue from meltwater.
This was our plan B hike today. We initially headed down the Middle Fork, but a combination of snow and stuck cars on the road convinced us to turn around and go to Twin Falls.
The trail was snow covered (pic 4), but well packed down. I was able to get up and back without traction, but my wife used my spikes and found them really helpful. The snow was soft enough that I was able to dig my heels in going down and not slide, but I saw several others sliding around. Half the hikers we saw had spikes.
It was also a very wet hike. There was a lot of heavy snow on the trees overhead that was melting rapidly and it was a little like hiking in the rain. There were numerous large slush puddles. A lot of this will probably be gone by next week if the temps come up.
We encountered maybe 20 other hikers today - not bad given that it was a weekend. We parked in the parking lot and there was plenty of space. The lot was snow covered, but that will probably have melted by the time you read this.
