Island Lake - Rainbow Lake — Wednesday, Jul. 1, 2009

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Ollalie lake and Mt. Rainier.
Left from Pratt Lake/Granite Peak TH. Trail is in excellent condition. Felt more like August than July 1. Incredible variety of wildflowers--at least a dozen I could name and many more. No snow to speak of until we reached the island lake basin, and even that was nothing to write home about. Great views of Ollalie and Talapus from the trail, all melted out, as is Island. Just some photogenic snow along the shore. Best of all--no bugs.

I was there yesterday. Your picture of Island Lake is actually Rainbow Lake. Island lake is at the end of a short side trail that is clearly marked, and it is mostly snowbanks still, though more like a shallow pond when melted out.
