Snowfields to cross - could be difficult
I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that there were several groups ahead of me when I headed up the trail at 7:20! Trail has a few downed trees but overall is just as covered in root's as always. Still goes mostly uphill at quite a strenuous pace! Sporadic snow started about 3/4 of a mile from the top but was not sustained for any duration and was not an issue. Trail is slightly muddy due to run off but nothing to worry about! Views from the top were covered in clouds, just like you would expect for spring 2011! Passed a surprising amount of hikers on the way down, several of whom were wearing plastic boots. Ouch, but they all seemed to be enjoying the fun forest hike! Quite a few dogs on the trail. Traction is challenging on the way down, but it might just be the Lowa boots, great in all conditions EXCEPT snow! Made it up and down with lunch and some pictures along the way in 4 hours and 5 minutes. Not a bad little training session, good time of the year for this hike!
