Here's a line I feared I'd have to write, even before I left home: "Wildflowers are done, but the fall colours haven't arrived yet." Well, it turned out to be true. But it really didn't matter. This is a beautiful hike!
This trail is free of snow and in fine condition. There were some berries in the meadow...not tons, but you take what you can get. The flowers were done and gone, and only a few leaves had slight tinges of red. But the views of Baker and the surrounding peaks were jaw dropping. I'd love to go back in a few weeks to catch the full blaze of fall colours. I may even head back this year.
On my way back down, I weas planning on returning via the Scott Paul trail, but the nifty suspension bridge was out. Rather than scout around upstream for a good crossing, I decided to turn around and head back the way I came.
This was hike 17 of my 30/300/30000 @ 30 challenge.

I like your write up and your goal. Keep it up. I am of course Mike and I am doing the 50 hikes at age 50. Hopefully this weekend I will finish my 40th hike this year then 10 more to go. Park Butte was one of my first trails I hiked when I moved to Washington and started hiking back in 1990. I have been back several times both with and with out snow and camped at the lookout. Great panoramic view of Mount Baker. Take care and good luck on your goal. I recommend Anderson and Watson Lakes on the east side of Mount Baker if you haven't been there before but wait until the fall colors are out. It is a spectacular place especially in fall. Take Care Mike

Thanks for your kind words. Your 50 hikes goal was the inspiration for my goal. I'll definitely add your suggestion to my list of potential hikes this fall. Sounds beautiful. I also want to work in Summerland/Gap before the high country closes. Best of luck on reachin your goal...you are almost there!
