Alta Mountain, Rachel Lake — Saturday, Sep. 24, 2011

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass

Had a great hike on a great day despite the rooty, rocky and very steep last mile to Rachel Lake. The hike to Alta Mountain is worth the extra effort for the great 360deg views. I was surprised by the number of blowdowns and this may indicate that this trail does not have priority in maintenance despite it popularity (parking lot was almost filled when I arrived!). No bugs until the very top of Alta which I found strange. A couple found it but since they were headed up to Alta they gave it to other hikers on the way down who said they would leave it at the trailhead outhouse but I did not find it there.
