We began our hike at Sunrise Visitor Center and followed the Sunrise Nature Trail to the left to the Sourdough Ridge Trail where we turned right to head east to the Dege Peak Spur Trail. On our return we went left on the Sunrise Nature Trail to complete a loop of 5 miles with an elevation gain of 800 ft. Mt Rainier gradually retreated behind the clouds before our hike ended. The flowers are mostly past their prime, but the large number of asters present added beautiful color along many sections of the trail. Mountain daisies, harebells, campion, and many western anemone in the seed stage were also present. Although the day was cloudy, the Goat Rocks and Mt Adams could be seen to the South.
