Gold Creek Trail to Alaska Lake — Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Waterfalls and avalanche debris along Gold Creek
We enjoyed a nice break in the weather on our Sunday hike up Gold Creek. There was no rain at all, sometimes even a bit of sunshine. Recent heavy rains had flooded parts of the trail, and one creek crossing was tricky. Some slippery logs offered a precarious way to cross it with dry feet. We turned around at the Gold Creek ford four miles up the trail- the water was way too deep and fast to cross easily. On the bright side, all the rain had created spectacular waterfalls coming down the sides of the Gold Creek canyon. Snow in the valley was just about gone due to the warmth and rain. Other than the flooded parts, the trail was in good shape with no blowdowns of note. Drainage work is needed to get water off the trail. Enjoy the snow-free hiking while it lasts around here!
