Trip Report

Old Robe Canyon — Monday, Dec. 31, 2012

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Not a lot of mud, but glad we wore our boots.
A beautiful clear day, but a bit chilly as well. An easy hike and our 4th month old son's first! Bring your boots as the trail is muddy in places; it wasn't too bad today, but I'm guessing the cold help firm up the ground. There is a washout (pictured) where the trail goes into the canyon. This requires you to walk over a log or take a new forming section of trail around. Don't let this deter you though, getting to see the old rail line in the canyon is very neat and the view looking back up river with the frosted mountain tops was excellent. We stopped at the trail closed sign since our little one was in the ergo carrier and scrambling over washouts wasn't going to happen. Several groups could be seen venturing further; how far you can go I'm not sure.
Washout where the trail enters the canyon.
Old railroad bed heading down the canyon.
View looking back up the river; further up the view also included some frosted Cascade peaks.

Our first trail report. Didn't realize it was going to do that to the pictures. We'll adjust for future postings.

Nice photo of the river, is it easy to find that location when I take photos there in the spring?
