Bearhead Mountain, Carbon River to Ipsut Falls — Sunday, May. 11, 2014

Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
Looking Like A Romantic Painting--AM
Today’s destination was Bearhead Mountain. First stop was off 410 at Enumclaw Ski and Mountain for a $30 annual Northwest Forest Pass. Then head past Buckley through the town of Wilkeson–where I should have stopped, seriously the town looks awesome–drive over the historic Fairfax one lane bridge, wave as you drive by the Carbon River Ranger Station, and cross the Carbon River on another one lane bridge. Here the pavement ends and the land of families shooting guns into the hillside begins. Follow the pot holed dirt road for 6 miles until you hit snow. I’m not exactly sure where we ended up–best guess is we were looking down at one of the Coplay Lake. But it was gorgeous. The views of Rainier weren’t there. It was 50 and a bit overcast, and down below it was 70. But I am always glad to hit some mountain roads this early in the season. This road deserves a return trip–that is if I can figure out where I was.
