Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve — Monday, Jul. 7, 2014

This is a new trail just put in by Whatcom county. It is very well maintained, no blowdowns. Dogs can walk off-leash. It is an excellent place to go if you have older kids, dogs or like a quick day hike. The bugs were way better than I anticipated for this time of year and we got out with no bug bites. I read somewhere that this was a good hike for kids but the terrain is steep and some of the lookouts have sudden drop offs with no rail. My son was unable to complete the hike as he got tired from being on such a steep trail. There is a bus stop right at the trail head. So for people in whatcom county you could just take the bus to the trail head.
