Trip Report
Tolmie Peak Lookout - Eunice Lake — Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014
Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich
The road had not improved since last weekend, when we were up at Spray Park. Wishful thinking on our part. The last 14 miles are rough but it is what it is. Arrived at the trail head around 9:30 and parking was a breeze (we arrive 30 minutes later last weekend and things were much busier). The hike was beautiful...we had sunshine most of the way and got to see the mountain, though it darted behind clouds on our way back down. Bugs weren't bad, but we also used spray. All of the bear grass is gone, but there are still pockets of lush looking lupin. Lake Eunice was sparkly and clear. Enjoyed lunch next to the lookout, not too many people there when we arrived. We weren't able to go up into the lookout as the ranger was painting, which seems an odd activity on a busy Sunday in the summer. All-in-all two enthusiastic thumbs up...we'll be back a bit earlier next time so we can enjoy the flowers.
