Cedar River Trail — Friday, Aug. 29, 2014

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
For this trip we parked on the east side of Maple Valley Highway in the gravel lot by SR18 across the street from Foley's Produce Market and headed north since the bridge just south of here has been under repair since August 20th. There are a lot of apple trees on this stretch and although most were not yet ripe, there were a few that were solidly ripe making for a sweet surprise. I'd suggest doing this stretch earlier in the day so that you can stop at Foley's to get some yummy fruit treats at the end. We did this a bit too late in the day and they were closed when we were done. The portion north from here that we did is fully paved and not under any wooded cover. It also hugs SR169 for the most part from here to Lake Washington. At a point north of where we turned around, it goes away from the road and closer to the river for portions. It is also a really nice stretch to do at the golden hour, as you get a really nice view of sunset, especially when there is good cloud cover like this day.
