Puget Sound and Islands > Whidbey Island
driftwood piles along the trail between Perego lake and the beach
Beautiful Sunday morning at Ebey's Landing. Walked the full loop up the bluff, down the switchbacks, back along the trail next to Perego Lake and then back down the remaining stretch of beach. The trail is in great shape - nicely brushed back. You will need a Discovery Pass to park. The beach was busy with folks fishing from shore for the salmon run that comes through this time of year but the trail was nearly empty. It didn't look like folks were having much luck with the fishing. We did have a big, male sea lion come up close between the kelp beds and the shore, but dove right back under the water and disappeared. If you have done this hike before but walked back along the beach - try the trail that runs next to Perego lake. It offers close up views of the lake, much more bird/wildlife action and a bit more privacy.
looking east over some of the Ebey's Landing reserve active farm land
north up the coast from the switchbacks down to the beach
suddenly I felt as if somebody was watching us...
