Rock trail
Hiking this trail, I remembered this was my first work party. It was a cold Feb day, everybody knew everybody else but me and I was the only gal. I did know how to wield a shovel, tho, and was soon clearing down to mineral soil. There was this huge rock the guys were trying to dig out. I never thought a bunch of old guys would get it moved, but then again, I had not yet worked with Pete! I didn't really know if this is something I wanted to do when I retired, but eventually I signed up for another work party. And another, etc. I never got to work on this particular trail again tho. It it a wonderful trail! We hiked down it, went to Lost Lake, then back the Lost Lake trail around to Fragrance Lake then up the Double Diamond back to the parking lot. I found out afterwards from another hiker, that you can go all the way past Lost Lake on the East Lost Lake trail, thru the private stretch and loop around that way and get great views of Mt Baker. Next time.

The route you heard about is indeed one of the best loops anywhere. You top out at a clearcut, but the views are fantastic! You can either take the trail back by following the road down and north a bit to the main Lost Lake trail and then up "Chin scraper" back to the Rock Trail parking lot, or my preferred route that goes south following a gated road that ends up at the Fragrance Lake Road and trailhead where your car would be parked if you took the Fragrance Lake trail up from Chuckanut Drive to Chin scraper and then over to the Rock Trail. This way you've got in 12 miles or so with approx. 3000' gain. A very good winter workout. Still, the trail is very sloppy, overgrown, and rugged in places around Lost Lake and especially to the clear cut above. It would be a very worthy project for a WTA work party! Don't even get me started on the Chuckanut Mt. Ridge Trail! This area is primo lowland hiking with more loops, scenery, and coastal forest than a hiker can dream of!
